I watched a TV program about positive thinking today. off course such programs are aired on National Geographic channel. It was about a case study of the impact on the performance of being positive. Many Gurus have been telling us since long to be positive. Think positive. Do positive etc. But somehow we come across a sort of situation that makes us down. We become Erratic, confused or depressed which changes our perspective towards seeing the things. It changes our attitude, approach towards things. Our mind entertains negative thoughts. It impacts on our decision making process and the situation may goes worse.
A group of people were asked a question. What kind of thought comes into your mind first when a telephone rings in the mid night? most of the people reacted the same way. Who died? No body did think that a friend may have called for an outing in the moon light. This is an instance of negative thinking.
Research concludes that people who think positive, attracts good luck, health, money, success and harmony in relationships. Let me share some day to day examples with you. It is 12:47 PM in the clock and I have to catch a bus at 1 PM. the distance from my home to the bus stop is exactly 15 minutes walk. I have 3 minutes short. What do I think? Oh no! I am gonna miss the bus! again late! hell! I am disturbed. I yelled at my wife and had a small dispute while leaving for office. Obviously I began my day on a bad note. Instead, I could have thought in some different (+ve)way. Oh its just 11 minutes left and any how I must catch the bus. Let me walk fast. And it really happened, I made my mind to rush to the bus stop and started acting on that node, I get lift from a bike rider to the bust stop. I did not miss the bus. My mid does not co operate with me. It has a habit to think negative. My boss sent me an email attached with a report and asked me to keep the print out ready in half an hour to discuss on that. It was the task of taking the print outs from the office common printer. Very instantly a thought came into my mind, Oh! will I be able to get the print out from the common printer? Will there be a paper available in the tray? who will go after the admin guy to insist on the paper if it is not there? I don't like this job. I should have though in a different way right. And see what happened, I had been to the printer bay and I found that there was no paper in the tray. I should have thought positive. The same thing happened with my colleague, But it was positive this time. He did not think much. He just thought of taking the print out any which ways. He went in the printer bay. pulled the report on that computer and gave the print command. The print out is ready. Had he found no paper in the tray, I asked him what would be his reaction? He was cool. He gave me a composed look. He said, " I would have tried later, may be after another half an hour" What a big deal?
My mind again misbehaves with me. My wife asked me to meet Mr. ABC as to collect the insurance papers from him. I instantly reacted. Will he be in his office this time? Ok. She asked me to call him and see if I can meet him in his office this time. Very next though came into my mind. Will he pick up my phone. (because he is a very busy person) and both of us ended with a quarrel. I was very upset on her statements. Her behavior. and so on. How negative person I am. I did not visit to my friend's home on the occasion of pooja a religious ceremony. why? because he did not invite me. Though I was aware that he had talked to me some 10 days ago that he is planning to take this function at his home and cordially had asked me to visit. Even though I was reluctant to visit his place why? simple. He did not officially invite me. Ego. Most of us are leading this kind of life. Isn't it?
In the TV show 2 clips were shown. each clip was 8-10 seconds long. A man was shown traveling in the metro train in both the clips. However the background music was different. On the basis of the clip a group of people were asked to make out the story of on the man's state of mind. In the first clip the background music was like dull, slow and boring, tedious. In the second clip the back ground music was fast, zealous & elated. Obviously though the clip was same. The first clip, the group of people made out that the man's state of mind was sad. In the second clip the man's state of mind was joyous. It was the impact of the music. So to conclude, hear that kind of music which will make your mood fresh and you will feel energetic.
A Group of people were asked to take 10 shots to put the ball in the volleyball basket. A girl was hardly able to make any go. Then she was asked to take 10 shots more but this time with her eyes tied with a ribbon. All the other participants were asked to cheer the girl. She started putting the ball in the basket, obviously the ball did not make in to the basket, though the participants cheered and she was told by the host that she made it. this was an attempt to instill positive thoughts into her mind. She was told and made to believe that she made 6 successful attempts to put the ball in the basket when eyes were tied blind. Then she was again asked to try 10 more shots and this time her eyes were not tied. This time she could make 5 successful shots. This proves that positive thinking does a positive impact on your mind and it enhances the quality of your overall performance.
In the another instance a couple were made to pose one of them in a sad mood and the other in a happy mood. The participant was suppose to act as if one is sad and other is happy. Good. They were given 50 dollars each for posing. Then they ware asked to bait on odd and even numbers if they win they will be given another 50 dollars and if they loose they will loose entire money. Surprisingly among the couple a lady who had posed sad did not agree to play a game of wheel and was reluctant to try on her luck, but the man happily agreed to play a game and won another 50 dollars. This is an impact of being positive on your decision making ability. So the message is already delivered. isn't it?
The very first step toward being positive is to 'smile' at your self and then others. A good smile does not require any reason. That shows. That reflects the state of your mind. Your state of mind should be seen on your face and not on Facebook or whats up. You will see the difference. Just Smile and be positive. Make your mood. Pamper yourself. There are many ways. Music, shopping, movies, books, friends, sport, hobby, Mcdee, Domino's, Temples, Churches, pets, parents, spouse, children, orphanages, old age homes, schools, colleges, art.................. life is beautiful. Love it. Love yourself.
